WWE News: Alberto
Del Rio Officially Released by Company. WWE Releases Alberto Del Rio,
Paige's Future Also In Doubt. CM Punk Blogs On If He Misses WWE, Renee
Young Note
Earlier today,
the WWE announced that they'd come to terms with Alberto Del
Rio, a WWE Superstar who'd been suspended about three weeks prior (along with his
girlfriend and WWE Superstar Paige) for his first Wellness Policy Violation.
WWE
has released Alberto Del Rio from his contract with the company, and his
real-life girlfriend Paige could be on her way out as well.
WWE.com sent out the following
statement early Friday announcing Del Rio’s release:
WWE and Jose Rodriguez
(Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of
today, September 9, 2016.
Del Rio returned
to the company at Hell in a Cell just last October, where he shockingly
defeated John Cena to win the United States Championship. But his career was
all downhill from there, highlighted by a failed run as a member of the League
of Nations and a general lack of a push.
Things really
took a turn for the worse last month when both
Del Rio and Paige were suspended on August 18 for violating the company’s Talent Wellness Program. This came not long
after a bizarre incident
involving both superstars at Money in the Bank, one in which Paige was reportedly detained by police.
Here
are some highlights from the press conference, courtesy of S E S coops:
“Alberto said he did not feel comfortable in WWE anymore.
He was losing his passion for wrestling and had nothing left to prove in WWE.
He asked to be released and the request was granted.
He is free to work in Mexico immediately. He can work
anywhere in the United States starting next month. There is no 90-day
no-compete clause.”
